why joining a choir might change your life

On September 11th and 18th, we’re holding open rehearsals so that you can come sing with us and decide if you’d like to formally audition for our choir. Although our choir is an auditioned ensemble, we strive to create a welcoming environment for all and we encourage anyone with voice and passion to come and sing with us.

Still not sure if a choir is for you? Here are just some of the reasons why joining a choir might just change your life.

Singing in a choir is mindful

Research shows a measurable increase in mindfulness and focus among choir members immediately following rehearsals. Mindfulness has many of the same emotional and psychological benefits as prolonged periods of meditation.

Singing in a choir boosts your brain

Practicing even basic music reading skills are known to sharpen your memory, concentration skills and spatial organization.

Singing in a choir is screen-free

Looking to cut down on your screen time? Feeling like you need a little more IRL? Well, it’s pretty hard to check your socials while you’re holding up your end of the Alto section.

Singing in a choir is a stress-reliever

Sitting up straight, relaxing your shoulders and breathing rhythmically from your diaphragm for an hour might sound like a yoga practice but it’s actually what you do in choir. It’s little wonder people find it really relaxing.

Singing in a choir is energizing

Introverted or extroverted, a choir is a great place to energize. Whether you absorb that energy from social interactions or simply from standing shoulder-to-shoulder with others, being together but singing your own part, a choir is an amazing well from which to fill your emotional cup.
